The theme for Africa Month 2017 is “The Year of OR Tambo: Building a Better Africa and a Better World”. The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature (NCPL) on the 25 May 2017 will commemorate Africa Day.
In a built up to Africa Day, a House Sitting will take place on the 23 May 2017 and Members of the Provincial Legislature will debate Africa Day, 14:15. The institution hereby acknowledges that Africa Day presents an opportunity for South Africans to reconnect and support of all government interventions to develop a better Africa and a better world.
Africa Day celebrates the day when the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union (AU), was formed in 1963. It acknowledges the progress that we, as Africans, have made, while reflecting upon the common challenges we face in a global environment. The AU comprises of 53 member states. The AU collectively addresses the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.
The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature recognises that South Africa is an integral part of the African continent and encourages all its citizens to positively contribute toward the continents stability, unity, prosperity towards sustained development and upliftment of all African people.
