New MECs sworn in by Judge President

The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 provides that before Members of the Executive Council of a province begin to perform their functions they must swear or affirm faithfulness to the Republic and obedience as prescribed in Schedule 2 of the Constitution the Republic of South Africa, 1996(Oaths an Affirmations Item 5) . The Judge President of the Constitutional Court presided, Judge K Kgomo presided over the swearing in of the new Members of the Executive Council (MECs) on Thursday, 11 May 2017. The newly appointed MECs individually declared the Oath of Affirmation. The two MECs who were sworn in were MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism – Mrs Gail Parker and MEC for Safety and Liaison – Mrs Alexandra Beukes. The Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas reshuffled her Provincial Executive Council on 10 May 2017.
