The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature (NCPL) created a special bond with Sinothando Child and Youth Centre. The NCPL assisted and supported the Centre on Mandela Day last year (2016) and the Secretary to the Legislature, Mr PB Moopelwa made a commitment to the centre that the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature will continue with the Mandela Day initiative for three (3) years.
This initiative made a huge difference to the children and youth at the centre. The intention of this initiative is to provide assistance to the children and management of the Centre. The NCPL celebrated Mandela Day on the 18th July 2017 at the Sinothando Child and Youth Centre, by donating, a washing machine, toiletries, hair care products, including hair accessories, paint and paint brushes.
In the words of our late President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela “Poverty is not an accident, like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings.” In taking inspiration from those great words of knowledge, officials from the Legislature felt that it was important for them to voluntarily contribute to those less fortunate on Mandela Day and to continue the good work that our icon left us.
Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years and therefore it is urged for everyone to contribute 67 minutes to help those less privileged. The NCPL dedicated three (3) hours to the Sinothando Child and Youth Care Centre.
