Deputy Speaker Sharifa Ferris
In accordance with section 111 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (Act 108 of 1996), the Deputy Speaker assumes all responsibilities, powers and functions of the Speaker in his/her absence.
The Deputy Speaker also presides over debates and sittings, and ensures that Members of the Legislature observe the Rules of the House. The Deputy Speaker, as with the Speaker is expected to always demonstrate impartiality and fairness towards all members of the Legislature.
Hon Sharifa Ferris is also the Chairperson of the following:
- Chairperson of the Programming Committee
- Chairperson at Ethics and Conduct
- Chairperson at Standing Committee on Internal Arrangements
